March for Leeds Little Owls – Saturday 28 September, 11.30am

Save Little Owls Leeds are organising a march from Shepards Lane Rally and March to Banstead Park, join the campaign!

Saturday 28 September, 11.30am

Assemble in the Shepards Lane carpark, LS8 5AW

Leeds City Council has closed 3 of the Little Owls nurseries this summer, with little warning for parents, and now still plans to privatise 12 more! The council-run Little Owls provide vital affordable quality childcare. Closures will have dire impacts, as will privatisation which will likely see reduced access, terms and conditions for workers, and increased costs.

Sign and share the petition! Call on Leeds council to cancel these plans and work with trade unions and community campaigns to demand sufficient funding from central government to fully cover funded nursery places. https://www.change.org/p/save-little-owls-nurseries

The parents campaign previously forced the the council to retreat, postponing the 3 closures initially planned for May, until August, and launching an 'engagement exercise' with parents.

Rather than closing and privatising vital public nurseries the campaign is calling upon Leeds City Council to

  • Put in the public domain all documents relating to the review of Little Owls nurseries

  • Withdraw the current proposals to close 3 Little Owls nurseries and explore options for a further 12 Little Owls nurseries

  • Work with trade unions and community campaigns to demand support from central government to fully cover funded nursery places
